Lol. Sounds fantastic guys, I haven’t been so excited for an album since… probably On Letting Go. Also, you should all grow some sick ass mustaches. I’m talking Otto von Bismarck style. Or Mark Twain, if you prefer American mustaches.
Oh my gosh. You guys’s music sounds so beautiful to my ears. Haha. “I touched it”. ;D -high five- Anywayssss, Green has a NICE lookin mustache. I’m jealous. It reminds me of Jesus. Nice.
Juturna was amazing, one of a kind. On Letting Go was also a great album. Both helped me in various situations (And I’ve done some baddd ass stuff while listening to some Circa… things half of you wouldn’t want to know).
Now I get home from year long deployment to find Circa is on Atlantic Records? Damn – I’m stoked. I sure hope Circa teams up with Sean Paul, Uncle Cracker and Lil Kim.
Good luck on the endeavor, but I’m out on this one.
skeptic and a half
im confused by your post. did you think anything on our videos sounded like sean paul, uncle cracker or lil kim? on a side note, thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you’ve done for us.
-colin
amazing video, im speaking for everyone when i say its so interesting to watch this album come together. i hate when people argue over message boards but “Skeptic”, your argument is so very ignorant. yes sean paul, uncle cracker, and lil kim arent the best artists but it is called a record COMPANY for a reason. it is built to make money while spreading an artists expression. and to sign bands like circa and show their amazing talents you have to get pop music artists to fund the recording and promotion. Death Cab For Cutie just released a highly experimental album with an EIGHT MINUTE SINGLE! Circa fans should be proud of Circa Survive for working their asses off and producing two great albums, so why should’nt get some recognition with a better record deal? One last note, ha this is getting long. heres a few AMAZING alternative rock/experimental artists under Atlantic Records.
Sonny Moore(From First to Last)
Bjork(considered a musical icon)
Led Zeppelin(umm best band of all time?)
Bloc Party(4/5 stars-Alternative Press, for “Intimacy” album)
Death Cab For Cutie(indie legends)
Rob Thomas(yes very mainstream but has great songs)
Hey Colin – I reread my post and it came across too harsh -
Does the music sound like Sean Paul etc.? No. But from what I HAVE heard the album is turning out entirely different (which granted, isn’t always bad)… But from what I hear it all sounds a lot more poppy than what I’ve seen from Circa. Too poppy IMO – but hey I don’t have a great basis yet – so that’s my fault.
Huge change in Anthony’s voice. Not sure if it’s from his solo work being different than the typical Circa-type material or from smoking cigarettes… But it’s changed.
Idk if you noticed it since you see/hear him everyday – but it was immediate for someone who’s been living in the past two albums for so long.
i think what Skeptic is saying, like all the other kids that know better, is that bands that sign with a *more* mainstream label suck, because other people will be able to hear incredible music and wear incredible tshirts by incredible bands. no, actually, i’m not a tremendous fan of all the Circa tee designs, and yes i’m being sarcastic as fuck to emphasize the stubbornness and ignorance of Skeptic’s post.
Circa is and always will be Circa. and every album has been better than the one prior– to expect anything less than “great” from these guys, especially assuming less based on a label change, is complete and utter ignorance.
stoked for the new album, guys.
hope you make lots and lots of money.
all these videos are amazing…its been awesome to see the new record coming to fruition! can’t wait for the record.
*and on a side note to skeptic, im pretty sure that when anthony is tracking vocals for circa, a sound completely different than that of his solo stuff and from singing while chillin playing an acoustic guitar, his vocals will sound as the did in juturna and on letting go. it’s a completely different element.
WTH i just rewatched the vid. And I’m sure I saw Anthony grabbing a mixing board at the end… Now it’s an acoustic perfromance :S I’m worried Im developing a mental illness. Did that actually happen?
Hmm back off skeptic kid. I can understand I guess? I mean I don’t really think that we’re going to hear Circa on the radio anytime soon. But because their on a well known company might mean that their going to get more recognition? But like I said we won’t hear Semi-Constructive Criticism than stupid Lady Gaga?Their music is too amazing for that :] But about Anthony’s voice I think it’s still amazing and wonderful.Ahhh And I’m loving the sound. It’s sooo Circa. Out of the ordinary yet amazing. Love you guys for that. It’s not your typical cliche beat. I love you guys<3
OMG are you guys releasing this soon? Late October maybe? early November OMG OMG OMG AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I can’t wait to spend my money on this 9 :L oh lawd
Omg, I couldn’t agree with you more Skeptic, I think 1:08 gives a great example of that poppy sound Circa is clearly steering towards. My eyes tell me that’s Nick playing, but my ears say Jonas Brothers…don’t know what to believe.
Further evidence is shown in Studio Update # 4 right around 0:48, and in Studio Update # 3 starting at 0:51 and same video at 2:50. Ugh…might as well be listening to Miley Cyrus. Ugh…makes me sick.
Steve: “Kinda tuff….kinda tuff to match up with those drums, huh?” Haha, awesome.
I just want to say I have never anticipated an album so badly as this one. Circa has always gone above and beyond my expectations and never disappoints. Their sound is unmatched by any other band out there. Anthony’s voice is one that no one could replicate. They have such a unique sound that puts me in a trance when listening. “Poppy” music?–Absolutely not. I’d like to see another band try to come up with the same sound. Most pop artists don’t even write their own music, lyrics even. The amount of time and effort that has gone into this album alone deserves recognition. Can’t wait!
great bass’s sound, Nick. can’t wait… i’m listening Juturna and On letting Go every day, but I can not stop thinking about new album. Seems that none of the two albums compare the greatness of this new. The band has evolved, seems to be better than it already is… the new album release this year? 2010?
I’m not going to ‘plead my case’ with listing times in the videos… I said my two cents, a little too harshly at first, and will let it fall right there. Nothing takes away from the first two albums regardless of how the third comes out.
Also – I was shocked, hopefully you can understand after my time away. I wished Circa all the best luck, and I’ll obviously continue following Circa until the release date and we’ll see from there.
all the fits going on aside in here. BEST UPDATE YET (though that goes through my head everytime)
my second favorite is the golden footage of anthony + guitar… does avalon have a bigger say in this?!
favorite is beard’s beard mysterious disappearing if you flip from 0:54 to 1:29. WHAT IS A BEARD WITHOUT A BEARD!?!
keep up the sexiness.
-martine
wow these littile updates are getting me really excited about the new cd. i cant wait for it to come out and i cant wait for circa to tour again. and i visit the circa survive website more than any other bands website so yeah
Awesome guys. I love your bass Nick. I just bought me a new Fender 70’s Jazz bass. First Fender, and Oh boy am I glad i bought this. Keep up the good work. don’t forget Long Island once you guys hit up the ole’ tour bus.
Boys, you the best band!!
The Anthony`s voice very beatiful like voice Brian Molko(Placebo)!!!
You my most favorite band with Armor For Sleep!!!
PS Sorry for mistakes, because i don`t speak english!))
PPS When I can see a new album??
Hey guys,
To start, I’m totally 100% a huge fan of your band. Circa Survive really opened my perception to music and made me broaden my horizons. I have phases where i listen to different bands more often than others, but it always come back to Circa. I feel like your music never gets old and for that you’ll always be my #1.
BUT, having said that, I agree with “Skeptic” about certain things. When you love a band so much, it’s sort of scary to hear you changed labels to Atlantic, a major label with a lot of hip hop artists. I felt like your music (Juturna especially) was “out-there” and unique. Some of your new video updates seem really cool and “progressive” if you want to put a title on the genre. But other videos DO show a poppy side of Circa (yes i know, the songs arent done yet and we really havent heard any finished songs). I think what I’m trying to say is, us as fans are worried about this new major label coming in and putting their two sense in about your music/cutting your stuff up/simplifying your music/etc.
ALSO, i disagree with Skeptic in saying that you dont like anthony’s voice now. I really do like what Anthony is doing, in one of the drum tracking videos his voice sounded so eery and Bjork influenced, i love that!
And guys i’m not trying to rag on you about switching labels, its just something new that us as fans arent used to. PLEASE keep progressing and growing as a band. PLEASE put out an album that’s totally different than juturna and on letting go. Just be true to yourselves! and dont let Atlantic change your perceptions on your music! I have faith in you all.
Badass! I never had to wait for Juturna or On Letting Go, cause i first heard you guys after On Letting Go was released, so the past like 3 years ive been waiting, but after watching these video’s its gotten worse haha!! I can’t wait for the album. I can’t wait for you guys to come to canada. New record deal means that you’ll have to come up here and visit more haha!! Ive pretty much gotten half the city to love your music anyway! Thanks guys.
*phew* Good to hear it. I counted at least 8 smiles in this video. :] I am glad to see how well this is all coming together, as well as how you’re taking time with each individual piece. Sorry I ever doubted you, Circa! I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying the process. I’ve been living of OnLettingGo since it’s release, and Juturna is an album I’ve come back to multiple times, always taking away something different.
All the best, and keep smiling! I’m just as stoked as everyone here to hold this as your finished work.
How do you guys do it? I have a show to play in like three weeks and I’m nervous just thinking about it.
Anthony you’re ridiculously inspirational for someone who has overcome heavy drug addiction, and you continuously find great musicians to play with. I love all of your work. =]
i can see where all you worriers are coming from because when we were on equal vision we totally wrote songs that sounded like fall of troy, 108, converge, and the other bands on the label etc.
dont feel bad mang. im just trying to make the point that our labelmates nor label ever had an effect on the way we write music. we were circa survive before equal vision signed us. and after. and before atlantic signed us. and now after. we write music that makes us feel something. and anyone that likes the band should understand that and dig that.
i definitely dig that, i’m so envious of you guys. I still support you 100%, i bought your previous albums, i’ll be buying this one, and i’ll be seeing you guys whenever you tour.
best wishes..
Ha, I didn’t know you talk on here Colin. Now I can finally ask you the question I always wanted to ask! Is some of your guitar play influenced by “Dredg”? There one of my favorite bands and I always here similarities in the guitars. Im not even certain you heard of them but they are awesome and if you haven’t you really should when you get the chance. (check out album El Cielo )
wild steven,
yes i am very influenced by marks playing. El Cielo is in my top 20 albums ever. and Dredg was the first bigger band to take Circa on tour! Right before Catch without Arms came out. yeah baby!
hey Nick..the bass lines are amazing as always..however, the tone sounds different as compared to what you used for Juturna and On letting go..waiting eagerly to listen to them with all the other instruments..best wishes to all..
September 18th, 2009 at 8:45 am
Awesome! You guys are funny as hell.
Keep it up, bass lines sound great nick

Three words…
I touched it.
‘Nuff said. Hahaha

September 18th, 2009 at 11:14 am

I think Skeptic and a Half is housing many worries other people have. You just have to push through and believe in the band unfortuneately.

wild steven,
yes i am very influenced by marks playing. El Cielo is in my top 20 albums ever. and Dredg was the first bigger band to take Circa on tour! Right before Catch without Arms came out. yeah baby!

This is Wild Seven still.
That’s very cool man. I had a strong feeling there was influence there. Everyone should appreciate that album!

hey Nick..the bass lines are amazing as always..however, the tone sounds different as compared to what you used for Juturna and On letting go..waiting eagerly to listen to them with all the other instruments..best wishes to all..

What kind of guitar is Anthony playing? I can’t seem to make out any of the markings on my computer. It sounds pretty amazing though.
